OST - Orfeu Negro (Antonio Carlos Jobim & Luiz Bonfa) (1959) (@320)

My favourite album during the last month was Anais Mitchell's "Hadestown". A "folk opera" as she describes it, it modernises the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice to put it in an America of hard times. Mitchell as Eurydice, Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) as Orpheus and Ani DiFranco as Persephone are the most famous participants.
It is not the first time that the extremely influential myth is put in a different context from ancient Greece; the most famous is Orfeu Negro, a 1959 film directed by Marcel Camus that won the Palme d'Or at the 1959 Cannes Film Festival as well as the 1960 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The soundtrack of the film which is offered here, is the starting point of the spreading of bossa nova to western audiences. The music here comes with the movie's background noise which, in this particular case, in an add-on.

  1. Thanks for this great album!
Although I'm getting CRC Errors on tracks 3 and 14. Track 3 turns into noise by 4:09 but track 14 seems fine.
