    What is proportional force to random acts of violence? As long as you can hide behind randomness, that is, use fear to prevent others from pinpointing your acts, then how does Israel stop it? Do you put up with a neighbor that pledges your destruction and uses terror to undermine your daily life? If Hamas stopped its acts of violence, would Israel feel any need to retailiate? Sorry, but the Palestinians in Gaza elected Hamas which pledged to use violence against Israel, they'll get no sympathy from me.

    Hamas is a democratically elected government. The efforts of the Israeli and the (last) US government to undermine them is only making things worse. Have you ever thought that the Palestinians were driven to vote Hamas because of the way the Israeli government treats them? The continuous acts of violence and the economic strangling of the Palestinians leave no space for moderate thinking. After all, no Palestinian government is good for the Israeli government unless it is a pawn for them (see Abas). I remind you also that Arafat, who was far more moderate than Hamas was also considered as terrorist by the Israeli government. Finally, your "no sympathy" feelings justify the unquestionable war crimes that took place in Gaza.
