Various Artists - In God's Country, The Music That Inspired The Joshua Tree (2003) (@256)

Funfax reminded us that on March 9 was the 20th anniversary of the release of U2's Joshua Tree. Assuming that you all have this landmark album (in case you don't, go now and buy it!), I upload a premium cd given with Uncut mag (issue 10/03) containing songs which inspired U2 for the creation of this masterpiece. Be prepared to enjoy equal doses of folk, blues, country, country blues, bluegrass and rock'n'roll.
PS Pantelis, I was also serving the army back then... what a pity for both of us

Greek demonstrations

We finish (for the time being) our 'Protest Sessions' by presenting videos and images from the massive students/ teachers/ academics demonstrations taking place in Athens and in all major cities of Greece every Thursday against the education reform law who will allow private companies to run universities. Until now only public universities were allowed and the students were not paying any fees.

Our subsequent uploads (starting today) will be from groups whose applied values, lyrics and music could offer a valuable sparkle to people who felt uncomfortably learning about the Ungdomshuset case.

Solidarity to Ungdomshuset

They think that they have won. It is true that they won this battle. What they do not know is that they have added a very significant quantity of water to the river of rage that will overflow and flush them all. It is for sure that the pictures/videos of demonstrations and later of the demolition of Ungdomshuset made many people to start THINKING. Thinking that by sitting back for so long, by not acting to anything is forced to us, we have turned our governments/ police/ tax authorities/ corporations to become ruthless. Little by little, by any such battle lost, at various spots on the planet, the dots are gradually connected to form a dense web. But due to their complete arrogance, they are still unable to see this web. When they will realise its existence, it will be too late. The noise they will do when they collapse will be 1 million times stronger from the noise of the demolition of Ungdomshuset. ACT UP.

Various Artists - The Songs Of Bob Dylan (1989) (@256)

Bryan Ferry pays homage to the most important U.S. composer of the 2nd half of the 20th century, by releasing an album with covers on Bob Dylan's songs. It is obvious that Ferry admires Dylan since he has already covered A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall in his first solo lp 'These Foolish Things' (1973), It Ain't Me Babe in 'Another Time, Another Place' lp (1974) and Don't Think Twice It's All Right and It's All Over Now, Baby Blue in 'Frantic' lp (2002). So, our latest upload is also an album with covers on Bob Dylan's songs (one of Ferry's covers is of course here). An all-star team of artists takes part, which includes Sam Cooke, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Rod Stewart, Flying Burrito Brothers, Byrds, Them, Stills - Kooper - Bloomfield, Judy Collins, Siouxsie And The Banshees, Tom Robinson Band, Richie Havens, Jimi Hendrix, Tina Turner, George Thorogood, Carl Perkins, The Band, Joe Cocker, Eric Clapton, Joan Baez, Jerry Lee Lewis, Everly Brothers, Ron Wood, Ry Cooder, Bonnie Raitt etc. After all, the variety of styles of the artists that approached Dylan's material is the best evidence of his vast influence on music.
